Self-Care vs Self-Help
We have all gone down the self-help rabbit hole. It’s easy to do since it’s been spoon-fed to us since we were adolescents. Something is wrong with us. We must fix ourselves.
Congratulations if you are one of those few people who don’t think they need fixing. That’s wonderful.
But to those who wander the desert lost in search of ourselves, this is for you.
Maybe we don’t need fixing. Maybe we need care—Self-Care, Self-Love, Self-Adoration.
What is self-care:
Going to the doctor, dentist, eye doctor to stay healthy.
Washing your face at night even though you are tired and that’s usually the last thing you want to do. Your skin will thank you.
Going for a walk, hike, or run.
Calling your friends or family when you need to talk about something in your life and you know that they will help you work through that thing.
Having a couch day.
For more ideas here is a list of 99 ways to self-care.
What is not self-care:
Using running, or any exercise, to punish yourself for having a couch day.
Avoiding the doctor even when you know you need to see them for that ache you keep feeling in your right knee.
Hanging out with toxic people.
Trying to numb away your feelings.
This is an ever evolving post. It will change and grow as we do. The resources will change. But one this will remain. We need more to care for ourselves more.
